Earlier today we announced the release of Android 5.1 for the Moto X (2013) smartphone and it looks like it’s finally made its way to Sony’s Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact, and Z1 Ultra. These are some of the last smartphones to receive the latest version of Lollipop as all have been running Android 4.4 KitKat since Lollipop’s debut almost a year ago.
The Sony Xperia Z1 Android 5.1 release date is today as it’s been spotted rolling out to handsets around the world. The update is also available for the 1st generation Xperia Z1 Compact as well as the Z1 Ultra, and we’ve heard no problems reported so far.
The same 5.1 features are being seen in all Xperia Z1 smartphones including a much improved material design, better user interface, quick toggle Wi-Fi options, improved battery efficiency, and much more. The recent patches added to 5.1 gives Lollipop a much more stable platform that has been free from the original problems and glitches that plagued many initial launch smartphones.
Sony’s confirmed Lollipop is coming for the M2 Aqua and M2 with new rumors suggesting it’ll be available in the next couple of weeks. The Sony Xperia Z1 Android 5.1 update has been spotted in multiple countries, and if you haven’t seen it yet you should in the coming weeks.
You can always check your phone manually for the update by going to your phones Settings > About Phone > Check for Updates. It’s always best to install using a Wi-Fi connection and remember that typical data usage applies if installing using LTE or a 3G connection.
