The 1st generation Moto X (2013) model is one of the few smartphones to have received Lollipop, but it seems like the wait is finally over. The OTA install has been spotted rolling out to Verizon Moto X handsets nationwide, and so far there have been no problems reported.
The Verizon Moto X (2013) Android 5.1 update is a total of 712 MB in size, and is best installed over a Wi-Fi connection. All of the typical features are seen in the new update including material design enhancements, user interface improvements, improved volume controls, quick launch menu options, and much more.
The 5.1 install comes with many patches that many of the first Android 5.0 updates were lacking that should significantly improve the user experience. Since the original launch of Lollipop on Nexus devices, patches have mitigated the initial problems such as problematic battery consumption, unknown restarts, slower processing, and much more.
For those rocking the Verizon Moto X 1st gen model and have yet to receive the OTA install prompt, you can check manually in your phone by going to Settings > About Device> Software Update. As always, when installing an update of this magnitude be sure to back up all of your information using a Cloud service or other application for those unforeseen situations.
