Sony had to do something with the concept of the Xperia Z series as the launch of the same old handset once again was certain to send Sony Mobile in an unwanted direction. The recent launch announcement of the Z5 in Berlin is still one of the biggest smartphone launch announcements of the year as it seems like we’re still taking the news in. Introducing something that is expected to change public perception of the once famed Sony Xperia Z series is just what Sony is hoping overhauling the Xperia Z6 concept will do.
Sony took a lot of criticism for some of its previous launches including the Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z3+, and took even more with the overheating issues thanks to Qualcomm’s 810 SoC. The Xperia Z5 looks anything like the previous models as the new concept starting with the most notable differences between the Z5 and not just previous Sony smartphones, but all smartphones with the Z5’s 4K display.
The Z5 launch announcement seems to have invigorated the Xperia Z series as consumers are already lining up for the official release which is expected to start later this month in Asia. Aside from introducing the first 4K display, other specs include an improved Qualcomm 810 processor which is said to be free from overheating issues, 23 MP rear camera, 3GB RAM, and expandable memory with dual micro SD card slots.
While the huge improvements in the Sony Xperia Z5 concept will appeal to consumers, the price will not. While Sony has yet to announce their price structure for the three models including the Compact, standard Z5, or the Premium model, new rumors suggest the launch price will be representative of a true Android flagship, and not a budget friendly handset.
We’re hearing the launch price will start at about $830 for the Xperia Z5 Compact, $900 for the standard Z5, and upwards of $1060 for the Premium model. For some, this will be a small price to pay for one of the most sophisticated handsets on the market, but for others, it will be enough to have them looking the other way.
